Seillans

Seillans is classed
as, ‘one of the most beautiful villages of France’. It is a charming village
that dates back to the dark ages and has been shaped through time by the
Romans, Moors, Christian monks and the Lords of Seillans. Formerly on
the plain, the village was rebuilt higher up within the protection of
ramparts. Some of these stone fortifications still exist today, and it
was within these fortified walls, over the course of many centuries, that
Seillans was created.
The village today is a harmonious collection of pink, pastel houses, steeply terraced on slopes with a labyrinth of cobbled alleyways and rustic portals and arches. Delightful fountains and ‘lavoirs’ are a feature of the village and are found in almost every street. At its heart is a 12th Century chateau with fortress, and a restored Romanesque church, L’Eglise Saint-Léger, from the same period.
The Aside Tower with its distinctive bell and its fortified defence is a rare example of this type of building. The Place de la Republique at the top of the village has a large boules area, used frequently for music festivals, dances, art and craft markets. It has a stunning view over the Canton de Fayance to the Esterel Mountains and the coast.
